What matters most

To identify and prioritise the issues that matter most to our stakeholders and our business we analyse our stakeholders’ expectations as well as the social, environmental and economic impacts along our value chain in a materiality analysis.

We undertake a materiality assessment every three-four years1 to evaluate the relative importance of key sustainability issues to our stakeholders, ensuring our strategy remains relevant and fit for the future while focusing on building long term value.

During 2024 we completed a materiality assessment alongside a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis and a regulatory review. 2,462 stakeholders were consulted through interviews and online questionnaires, including: 1,802 customers, 576 employees, 63 suppliers, plus academics, landowners and industry peers.

The objectives of the materiality assessment were to:

  • Achieve a formally ratified list of material topics to feed into the ongoing evolution of sustainability strategy so it continues to be focused, efficient and relevant;
  • Explore and articulate stakeholders’ positions and strategic considerations for Barratt’s future strategy development.

This year’s assessment resulted in the identification of new material issues which will inform our future strategy development.
