Fulham Riverside, London

Overview

Fulham Riverside is a joint venture with London & Quadrant, with a fantastic setting overlooking the Thames, and includes the construction of a new Sainsbury’s store.

Fulham Riverside is one of four joint ventures Barratt London have undertaken to date with L&Q. The site, in a prime position on one of London's few remaining stretches of undeveloped riverfront, was acquired from Sainsbury's in 2012.

The project had planning permission for 462 homes, plus a superstore. We won the bid through our experience of delivering complex projects and working closely with Sainsbury's to define a construction methodology. This will not only deliver the 100,000 sq ft store to the set timescales but with no disruption to the operation of the existing store.

The Fulham Riverside project is particularly challenging from a logistical point of view with no construction access from three sides. This has meant particularly difficult phasing and construction sequencing, with use of the Thames for transportation and a total of ten different tower cranes at different times and a labour force peaking at 800 operatives daily. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.

This collaborative approach has led to Barratt London being selected by Sainsbury's for their Nine Elms project, which includes a new store and 645 homes.
