Cottam Meadow was one of the first schemes in the country to win a ‘Built for Life’ award for design excellence, and will offer a truly sustainable way of living.
Cottam Meadow will provide 104 contemporary homes, including 21 affordable, designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
The approach within the development is to create a building layout which defines a series of spaces, as opposed to a series of highways. Therefore, the streets and spaces become lanes, green crescents and squares with an adaptable shared surface throughout. This encourages social interaction, slower vehicle speeds and ensures good pedestrian access throughout the scheme. Green wedges create specific areas which encourage walking and cycling.
Cottam Meadow is built on land acquired from the Homes and Communities Agency via competitive tender. Construction commenced in July 2014 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
The site sits within a wider masterplan framework for the area which encompasses residential, community and leisure uses in a sustainable neighbourhood. Local councils are seeking to attract new housing and employment and there are plans to generate over 17,000 new homes, 20,000 jobs and nearly 1 million sq m of commercial space over the next ten years.
